Cabbage glut

Last weekend it was time to harvest the cabbages and make more space in the vege patch for summer vegetables. I had put these in around early May this year and the cabbages have literally been looking after themselves.

Out of the green and red, the green cabbages were more successful with big hearts. Red hearts were quite small with larger leaves. Pulling them all out was a good satisfying feeling. Green ones felt heavy and looked like a proper cabbage you get at the supermarket, minus the pesticides.

After sharing a few with friends and making coleslaw, I might try preserving the rest. May be a Sauer kraut or kimchee. For a winter vegetable it is quite worth planting and low maintenance. IMG_2479IMG_2475IMG_2482IMG_2488IMG_2485
