Dairy free Lentils/ Dhal

 

  • 1 cup Lentils (Orange colour Masoor lentils)
  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander Powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp Plain Curry Powder
  • 5 Curry leaves
  • ½ Onion
  • 1 Raw Chilli
  • 1 tsp Chilli Flakes
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 2 Cups Water
  • 2 – 2.5 Cups Coconut milk
  • 2 tble sp Coconut Oil
  • Salt to taste

Wash lentils

Add 1.5 Cups water, Turmeric, Coriander powder, Curry powder, Curry leaves, Raw Chilli (chopped) and Salt – and boil until Soften, until all water is evaporated. (Lentils will turn yellow).

Once lentils are boiled add coconut milk and simmer on low heat.

Separately fry the Onions, Chilli Flakes and Mustard Seeds and add to the Lentils.

Simmer for further 5 minutes and check if it needs more Salt.

Serve with rice or rotties.
